    The Full Journey

This piece marks the birth of the Journey Lines collection, an origin story etched onto canvas. "The Full Journey" is not just an artwork—it is an emergence, a becoming, a reckoning with knowledge, trauma, and transformation. It began in a time of deep immersion—nights spent listening to systems thinking and design podcasts, contemplating the real-world application of vast and complex ideas. It was a moment of recalibration, taking root inside safe circles and reflecting on the unexpected turns life had taken after a "fresh start" away from direct dv cycles a phrase that barely encapsulates the weight of unimaginable trauma that can be seen once the whole system starts to revela itself to you.

It was in this period of upheaval and reconfiguration that a shift occurred, catalyzed by reading The Neverending Story. The frame changed. It became clear that the only way to represent the enormity of these experiences—the weight of history, the fractures in time, the relentless forward movement—was through the continuous line. This technique, encircling each dot, became a meditation on life itself, a way to chart and honor the moments that land, shift, and transform us. The work became an exploration of what Indigenous art could mean to me—not as a static category, but as a space to carve out a path that felt true, that could hold and transfer energy safely, that could become a vessel for the big, untold stories.

But journeys are never clean or linear. In the pursuit of perfection, something unexpected happened. Black paint spilled across the canvas. It was an accident, a disruption—maybe even the result of painting drunk, as was often the case in those early nights of trying to reconstruct a life. And yet, as the paint spread, it balanced the composition. It forced a surrender. This was the truth of the journey: you think you know where you’re going, and then something—someone—throws the Nothing at you. And just like in The Neverending Story, it is there to test you, to reshape you, to force movement, to create the necessary layers.

Viewers have described this piece as vibrating with resonance. The intricate, pulsating web of lines evokes the interconnectedness of power, healing, and storytelling. The black disruptions serve as both a menace and a guide—trouble that is also necessary, imbalance that is also structure. It speaks to the inevitability of rupture, the way systems of control shape our narratives, and the way we, in turn, find ways to subvert, to reclaim, to transform. The piece holds tension—the balance between softness and severity, between surrender and intention, between accident and design.

Ultimately, "The Full Journey" is an invitation. It asks the viewer to step into the unpredictable, to embrace the contradictions, to acknowledge the unseen forces shaping our paths. It is about survival, adaptation, and the beauty found in the things we do not plan for. It is about the power of holding story—one’s own, one’s lineage, one’s place in the web of things—and the deep, sometimes painful, sometimes liberating act of letting it spill out into the world.
